PCQA Meetings

PCQA Briefings

In the Fall of 2007 briefings were held for patient advocates and patient advocacy organizations at the grass roots level in cities throughout America where PCQA leaders engaged community leaders and expertsA 2008 briefing schedule will soon be available.

Overview: Inaugural PCQA Meeting, September 13-14, 2007, Las Vegas, Nevada

Participants agreed to join together to move PCQA forward with an educational, patient-focused agenda. Alliance members identified a series of proactive steps and key areas of focus designed to establish the voice of PCQA to address inequities in patient care. Key focus areas included weighing in on the value of evidence-based medicine and comparative-effectiveness studies and their cumulative impact on clinical decisions.

Participants were particularly disturbed by the fact that the evidence required for best-practice medical decisions is often weak or nonexistent for special populations, but it is being applied to payment decisions anyway. Next steps will include identifying the effective media conduits for delivering PCQA’s recommendations.

PCQA will conduct and organize grassroots briefings in a dozen or more cities to highlight the serious gaps in scientific evidence contributing to adverse patient outcomes.  Briefings will also be effective in hearing grass roots concerns and recruiting additional advocacy organizations for the PCQA network.
